Did you really just ask me that?

I am not sure how I feel about strangers commenting on my massive belly. I had a man look at me this morning and say, "Wow! You're about ready to pop!". How do I respond to that?
He then asks how much longer I have, and when I tell him I still have about 7 weeks, he says, "Wow! Are there two in there?". Really?
I have had other people I know but haven't seen in a while say, "Oh my! You have gotten big!"
I try to take the comments lightly, and I know people aren't meaning to sound insensitive. But, really?? How do I respond to these questions.
I know I am massive, but is it really appropriate to comment on my humongous belly when I don't even know you that well, or at all????

  1. Well, when I see people that I think are big, I get excited for them. I think "wow, you are so close!" Don't take it personal. : ) They think they are being nice as you are so close to meeting your little blessing.

  2. haha... Oh, Jen, it's so true. You already feel like a whale, but it doesn't help for everyone else to agree, does it?!? I definitely had the same experience.

Funny story that you can enjoy: While I was pregnant, I was working with a guy who was very "nice," but tended to be very awkward and say all the wrong things. He did several TOTALLY inappropriate things, but here are two big ones.

First, he asked me how far along I was at some point and I answered "X weeks today" (I don't remember the exact number). His comment? "Oh, so you know the exact day it happened, huh?!?" Wow. I figured later I should've said, "Yes, I remember my last period, which is what determines it," but at the time all I could do was stare at him in disbelief.

Also, at my work baby shower, he put his gift in a bag with fireworks on it. His explanation was this: "I figured since the baby isn't born yet, we're not celebrating him, we're celebrating what happened so he can be born." Um, yuck. Please stop talking about my sex life. I barely know you... haha.. so hopefully this extremely long comment will make you laugh and let you know you're NOT ALONE!! Love you!

By the way, I am glad Jack is doing great! I was praying all day yesterday!

  4. I LOVE preggy bellies!!! :-) No matter how "huge" you may feel, you're absolutely gorgeous! Also, I agree with "The Golden Gang" (above). :-) Can't wait to see your little bundle of joy, and wish I could see your belly in person...
